Luke the evangelist is the catholic identified author of Acts of the Apostles (St. Luke Biography, n.d.). He was born a Greek gentile in Antioch (St. Luke Biography, n.d.). He was a trained physician and it is estimated that he was a slave, as slaves in biblical times were commonly medically educated (St. Luke Biography, n.d.). This is so that the family would have a resident physician. As shown in Luke’s book, Luke, he had a strong compassion for sinners and a focus on women’s role in Christianity Ministry (St. Luke Biography, n.d.). He is the only Gentile author the New Testament and wrote the Gospel of Luke and The Acts Of The Apostles. As Paul’s companion, Luke accompanied him on missionary journeys. St Luke’s feast day is 18/10 and is the patron saint of Physicians and Surgeons (St. Luke Biography, n.d.).
